What to watch, Affliction or UFC?
This Saturday night, mma fans will be presented with a choice. The y can payto watch Affliction’s debut event or tune in for a free night of UFC action. Now, in this day and age, it is possible to watch both. DVR’s have now surpassed some forms of human intelligence and could record one or even both events. Yet, if presented with the choice of watching Affliction or the UFC, which one would you choose?
The UFC has substantiated itself as the elite mma organization. Time and time again, it puts on stellar performances as viewers are always guaranteed to get their money’s worth. Affliction, on the other hand, is a new organization making it’s debut. But that doesn’t mean it’s fight card doesn’t have its fill of proven fighters. Moreover, many of the fighters on the Affliction card have UFC experience. Stiill, if the UFC is the elite mma organization, why are those fighters no longer employed by Dana White and company?
The key word in that phrase is employed. Although these fighters are newly employed members of Affliction, they are very well employed, at least for the time being. Affliction expects fighter payouts to range between the 4 and 6 million dollar mark. Checks written by the UFC for its last pay per view event did not even reach the million dollar plateau. If Affliction can continue that trend, there might be an awful lot of UFC fighters jumping ship.
A simple look at the fight card would suggest that Affliction has an edge over the UFC when it comes to the quality of fighters. The UFC has a host of fighters making their debut in the octagon while Affliction features more veteran fighters stepping into the cage. One could also argue that Affliction is presenting a bunch of fighters who are simply trying to resurrect their careers. Yet, it is all a matter of perspective. Fans must decide if they have a deeper desire to watch the birth of new careers or the revivification of others.
Regardless of which fight fans which to watch, they should be in for quite a bit of action. Faced with the dilemma of watching Affliction or the UFC is not necessarily a bad thing. With the assistance of some modern technology, mma fans can view both events. And no matter how you look at it, that in itself is a winning decision.
