UFC Fight Night Predictions

July 19th, 2008

UFC Fight Night 14 has finally arrived, however no pay-per-view bill will accompany tonight’s action. If you are a gambler, you could take that extra money and place a wager on your favorites. Here’s how we see the action unfolding during tonight’s free event.

James Irvin vs. Anderson Silva
Not enough people seem to be giving the Sandman enough credit. Silva’s jump to the light heavyweight division may not be as simple as some are making it out to be. Irvin will put in a valiant effort, but he still doesn’t have enough to upset Silva. Silva wns by decision late in the second round.

Reese Andy vs. Brandon Vera
Vera is still fuming about his last controversial loss to Fabricio Werdum. Now, Andy may bear the brunt of all that frustration. Vera will take the fight to Andy immediately and earn a TKO by the end of the first round.

Frank Edgar vs. Hermes Franca
This one is a toss-up and could wind up going to the cards. Each fighter will come out and fight very defensively. However, Franca will edge out Edgar with a split decision victory.

Jake O’Brien vs. Cain Velasquez
Velasquez outmatches O’Brien in every way. For that simple reason, Thomas just won’t have enough juice to make it out of the first round. Whether it be via strikes or submission, it will be an early win for Velasquez.

Kevin Burns vs. Anthony Johnson
Johnson took the fight on short notice, but won’t need much time to dispose of Burns. Johnson simply outclasses Burns in this match-up. That will become evident very early when too many strikes become unbearable for Burns. Johnson scores the knockout in round one.

CB Dollaway vs. Jesse Taylor
Both fighters get a chance for redemption, although Taylor may be the hungrier of the two. In fact, he could even be foaming at the mouth by the time the fight starts. Yet, that agression won’t be enough to lay out Dollaway. Look for Taylor to still earn the decision after a tough, hard-fought three rounds.
