Trump-Affliction connection could threaten UFC
It turns out that Affliction’s latest advocate is none other than the notorious Gazillionaire Donald Trump. Mr. Moneybags has teamed up with the organization to help launch its first ever event. Everyone is fully aware of Trump’s prowess in the business world, and now he is bringing his promotional expertise along with that horrible hairpiece into the world of mixed martial arts.
Trump has quite an extensive history putting on fights throughout various facilities all over the country. Like him or not, the man knows how to bring in the crowds. But more importantly, he knows how to make money.
Given Trump’s status, it is a wise move for Affliction to bring him into the mix. UFC President Dana White recently vowed to crush other mma organizations that may pose a threat to his precious UFC. While White may be a shrewd businessman, it’s safe to say that he has not been nearly as many fights as Trump.
Trump didn’t rise to the top of the business world without his share of squabbles along the way. Over the years, he has been in more than a few fights that went the distance, and none of which aired on pay-per-view. There is no denying White’s genius in the sport of mixed martial arts, but how does he really match-up against Trump?
White may have the upper hand right now as the UFC is hands down the Cadillac of the mma world. However, Trump has just recently entered the fray. It is unclear as to what type of role he will play in the future but, if that role grows, White has reason to worry.
Affliction has already sold out their first ever event and at a surprisingly rapid pace. That in itself should leave some room for White to worry. Now, with Trump fighting for the organization, Affliction could really start to build some momentum.
During the Mike Tyson era, much of the canvas that ultimately felt the back of his competitors was lined with the Trump insignia. Trump has had some of the best fighters in the world work for him and knows a thing or two about marketing the best of the best. For now, the UFC owns the best mma fighters in the world while Affliction has with one of the world’s best businessmen in its corner.
