    The latest on Rampage Jackson

    Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Apparently, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson’s problems started shortly after his loss to Forrest Griffin. Jackson had a falling out with his trainer and then began talking more and more crazy by the day. In the latest information being released in the Jackson debacle, he claimed that “He was God”. Bleacherreport.com goes on to contend that the information also states that Jackson has become delusional and that it is impossible to have a conversation with him.

While this information has yet to be validated with actual footage, one has to wonder about Jackson’s future. The past few weeks are sure to affect his life both inside and outside the octagon. Yet, he remains atop most rankings in the light heavyweight division. Sure, he barely lost the fight to Griffin, but where does he stand at this very moment?

One has to believe his training has already been affected and if he is put back inside the octagon, it is doubtful that fans will see the same Jackson who won the UFC light heavyweight champion. That reason alone should make experts think again when ranking Jackson up there with the sport’s elite.

    More trouble for Quinton Jackson

    Friday, July 18th, 2008

Quinton “Rampage” Jackson just can’t seem to stay out of the spotlight, albeit for all the wrong reasons. One day after he was arrested in Costa Mesa, Califonia, Irvine police responded to a call in which Jackson was displaying some unusual behavior. Apparently, Jackson was also making some alarming statements as well. The responding officer went on to detain a cooperative Jackson and transported him to a local mental hospital for evaluation.

Medical privacy laws have kept the specifics in Jackson’s case quiet. However, it seems there is something troubling the mind of the former UFC light heavyweight champion. No diagnosis has yet to be given and any analysis at this point would be mere speculation.

Nevertheless, it’s obvious that Jackson is in need of some kind of help. NBC sports has more on Jackson’s troubles.

Rampage Jackson sets the stage for a comeback

    Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Just when it seemed that there would be no break from the upcoming showdown between Affliction and the the UFC, Quinton Jackson intervened. With a simple flight from the cops, Jackson managed to propel himself onto the center stage in the world of mixed martial arts. For at least a little while, the organizational war between Affliction and the UFC will have to take a backseat.

Fedor Emelianenko and Anderson Silva’s names will also be uttered a lot less in the aftermath of Jackson’s run in with the law. However, it just proves how much weight Jackson carries in the mma circuit.

For if the UFC’s Marvin Eastman or Matt Linland pulled such a stunt, would it receive more than just a quick blurb or snippet in the back page of the sports section? (more…)

Jackson confident going into UFC 86

    Saturday, July 5th, 2008

Tonight, the biggest threat to Quinton “Rampage” Jackson may be himself. He hasn’t fought in nine months and, during that time, Jackson put on a few pounds in the interim. He has since shed that excess wait, but that fluctuation in weight combined with some ring rust could wind up to be two of the biggest factors working against him.

Nevertheless, Jackson is still arguably the most feared lightweight in the world. Then exactly how much will a layoff and a few extra meals affect Jackson? Apparently, Jackson has no worries about either in a recent interview conducted with insdiefighting.com.

Jackson goes on to talk about his fight preparation and the mental edge he brings with him to the octagon. Many believe Griffin cannot outlast Jackson and that he will continue his rampage through the light heavyweight division. But all those opinions will finally be put to rest as the battle will soon get underway.

    The Return of the Iceman

    Friday, July 4th, 2008

The Iceman was once the hottest name in mixed martial arts. The punching power of Chuck Liddell enthralled audiences and it seemed as though the sport was set to have a dominant champion for some time. Then came the Rampage. But that does not mean that Liddell is still not one of the top fighters in the UFC even though his super-stardom has dimmed out ever so slightly.

Part of the reason Liddell has faded into the backdrop is because he has not fought in 2008. And that lack of activity is mainly because Liddell was bitten by the injury big. However, it looks like he will finally get his chance during UFC 88 as he prepares to take on Rashad Evans. A victory over Evans would surely propel Liddell back up to the level where he was before two consecutive losses to Quinton Jackson and Keith Jardine.

MMAnews.com recently caught up with Liddell and talked to him about his upcoming fights. Apparently, the Iceman is ready to return to the octagon and has more plans for the future.

    A tale of two states

    Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

Nowadays, more and more states are taking on different approaches towards sanctioning mixed martial arts events. But while more states are leaning toward advocating mma’s advancement, others are not as hasty to set up a cage in their backyard. Tennessee is the latest state to line up in an effort to bring organizations like the UFC into their state. Tennessee state just passed legislation that will sanction the sport of mixed martial arts.

This news comes much to the chagrin of Memphis native Quinton “Rampage” Jackson as he may one day fight in front of his hometown crowd. In addition to Memphis, Nashville is also another prime spot that figures to be targeted by various mma organizations. But not all states are as welcoming as the Volunteer state.

Delaware State Representative Robert J. Valihura Jr recently proposed legislation that would ban “combative fighting” altogether in the state. The bill is known as House Bill 501 but is also widely recognized as “Toughman Legislation”.

Delaware is better known as the first state, although it’s archaic approach to mixed martial arts seems to date back to thinking that was prevalent when the state was founded. In a state where the mandatory closing time for bars is 1 am, pay per-view events that run late might not be seen in its entirety if the audience is watching from an establishment that serves alcohol.

Many times, people squawk at the south for being a little behind its Yankee brethren. In this case, the state of Delaware should travel south of the Mason-Dixon line and take a lesson from the good people of Tennessee.
