One of the most feared and successful heavyweights of the last decade has only known defeat once in his professional career. Fedor Emelianenko currently owns a 27-1 professional record with his only loss coming way back in the year 2000. On July 19th, he’ll try to extend his 24 fight win streak as he squares off against former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.
Fedor will immediately give up an eight inch height advantage when steps into the cage as part of the main of event of Affliction’s debut card. Sylvia is also no pushover by any stretch of the imagination. Sylvia will take a 24-4 record into the fight and while that record is quite impressive, it still seems as though Sylvia has something to prove.
Sylvia dropped two of his last three fights although those defeats were at the hands of some top notch opponents in Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In order to get back on top, Sylvia will have to top the best heavyweight in the sport. 411mania.com goes into greater detail about the possibility of a Fedor loss.
Fedor Emelianenko’s date with Tim Sylvia at Affliction’s upcoming Banned is almost here. That bout just might dictate the success or lack thereof of Affliction’s debut event. Sylvia was once the UFC Heavyweight champion, although he will now have to contend with one of mma’s most esteemed heavyweights. Fedor has a 27-1 professional record and hasn’t lost a bout in nearly eight years.
In this compilation, Fedor disposes of quite a few of his past opponents. Sylvia, who could soon find himself on such a tape, will have to be at his best if he hopes to dethrone “The Last Emperor”. In addition, much of Affliction’s hope for the future will be riding on at least a competitive bout from Sylvia.

It was with a degree of surprise (although not too much) that Affliction (up until recently just a harmless manufacturer of MMA wear under its own lable) announced it was entering into the MMA fight promotion game in direct competition with UFC. As most of you know by now, UFC responded by banning its fighters from wearing any Affliction apparel wear… which prompted Affliction to name its very first card “Affliction: Banned” (not a bad move actually).
But the card has more than just a title that snubs the UFC. The main event of the evening on July 19th not only features the mighty Fedor… but also a recent departees Tim Sylvia and Andre Arlovski. So what do you do if you’re the UFC? Well… snub them right back and put a fairly big card on free TV on at the exact same time Affliction is debuting their show.
The UFC has begun preparations to host a live fight event on Spike TV on July 19, the same night that the upstart Affliction promotion hosts its first pay-per-view event, Sherdog.com reports. According to the report, the event could feature a light heavyweight main event between Wanderlei Silva and former heavyweight Brandon Vera, and it’s expected to take place in Las Vegas.
What a giant kick in the groin that would be to the fledgling new MMA brand!
Now I’ve got to say that unlike EliteXC, this Affliction cared looks fantastic from top to bottom and I’m more than a little interested in seeing it… but if UFC actually does move ahead and puts a Wanderlei Silva on free TV at the same time… it will be harsh for Affliction. Would the move be cruel? Yup. Done almost just out of spite? Certainly. But it’s business baby, and you do what you need to do.
The UFC says he is still their heavyweight champion, but earlier this evening, Randy Couture mentioned during an interview that he believes he will be free and clear of his UFC contract and their legal dispute by July, opening the door for a fight with Fedor Emelianenko by October.
It’s well known that Couture has been trying to get out of his UFC contract for some time. There are several reasons for this, but the one that Couture points to more than others was the UFC’s inability to sign Fedor Emelianenko to a contract, setting up a long awaited and eagerly anticipated showdown between the two. Couture then knew that if the fight was ever going to happen, he needed to get out of his contract, and thus the dispute began.
For the sakes of both Couture and the UFC, I hope Randy is right about getting this settled by July. Randy is just sitting on the sidelines while things are tied up, and the UFC is embarrassing itself still advertising a guy on their website as their supreme champion while he’s publicly going around saying he wants nothing to do with them.
But beyond even that… what true MMA fan amongst us wouldn’t cut off one of our testicles to see a Couture/Fedor fight?
