Affliction may be facing an uphill battle leading towards its next event. Following its debut card, which the organization has deemed a financial success, Affliction may experience a few bumps in the road while putting together a follow-up extravaganza. First, the prize pupil of Affliction, Fedor Emelianenko, received a medical suspension that could last as long as six months.
It is hard to believe Fedor could sustain any type of injury during the brief amount of time he was in the ring against Tim Sylvia. Reports have indicated that Fedor’s suspension is due to a recurring hand injury. Did he really hit Sylvia that hard?
Despite what reports are leaked, it’s a pretty safe bet that Fedor will be cleared to fight before the October 11th event. It’s hard to imagine Affliction not being able to get around this minor pothole. That being said, Sylvia’s status for October 11th also remains in question. But does anyone really care? Read more…

It has been leaked that Affliction’s sophomore fight card will be held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event’s feature bout will showcase Fedor Emelianenko defending his World Association of Mixed Martial Arts heavyweight championship belt against Andrei Arlovski. But despite having the event right in the middle of the UFC’s stomping grounds, the venue will not be quite the same. The Thomas & Mack Center on the UNLV campus will play host to the event.
An unofficial announcement will not come until next Tuesday according to Affliction President Tom Atencio. For both Fedor and Arlovski, it will be their second straight Affliction bout. And judging by each man’s previous fight, the match-up should be much more competitive than Fedor’s annihilation of Tim Sylvia.
Arlovksi took part in the most enetertaining fight on the Banned fight card as he scored a knockout against Ben Rothwell. Kevin Lole of Yahoo Sports has more on this breaking story.

Early on, Affliction revealed that its debut event had sold out rather abruptly. Word then leaked indicating that story may have been a bit fabricated. Now, it is whispered that Affliction may have purchased 25 percent of this tickets themselves. So did the organization really make any money?
Fighter payouts climbed as high as $3 million and Affliction claimed to bring in a total of $2.1 million at the gate. But how much of that $2.1 million came out of its own pocket?
The pay-per-view numbers will probably dictate whether or not the clothing company was able to keep its head above water. However, Affliction did what was necessary in order to put on a stellar debut event. And not all organizations, regardless of the genre, make a profit during their grand opening. Some may take a hit in the pocketbook before they can start planning weekly excursions to exotic locations. The folks over at Bloodyelbow.com take a deeper look into Affliction’s debut numbers.

So what did we learn after this weekend? One lesson is that Affliction is quite a formidable foe for the UFC. All in all, Affliction’s fight card was a better all-round event than UFC Fight Night 14. Perhaps Dana White should now be a little bit worried. Granted, mma does look better inside of a cage than in a ring. Nonetheless, the better fights did take place inside a ring on Saturday evening.
Celebrities crowded into the arena to watch Affliction: Banned, the crowd seemed more raucous and even the fighters had more notoriety than the UFC fighters who participated in UFC Fight Night 14. Also, the mere presence of Donald Trump should send a tremor of fear down White’s spine. And need we remind you, Megadeth was on hand to perform. How can anyone expect to compete with that?
Notwithstanding the appearance of the leftover metal band from the eighties, Affliction did a stupendous job of hanging in with the elite mma organization during its first ever event. Sherdog has more on the promising young rookie better known as Affliction.

Mixed martial arts fans are not the only ones benefitting from the advent of Affliction. Gamblers now have something else to bet on. With the ever blossoming sport of mma drawing mass appeal, degenrates from all over the world can now lose their kid’s college fund on sonething else.
Saturday night’s action was just the first of at least three Affliction fight cards to come. Now, early projections could have made the wise gambler quite a bit of money. Fedor Emelianenko went off as a heavy favorite, but showed why the odds were stacked in his favor.
Many gamblers may see fights such as these as a safe bet, although there is no such thing as a safe bet. One random punch could lead to a quick knockout. One false slippage could also lead to a quick submission. So before gamblers line up to empty their piggy banks on a mma fight, they need to take these things into consideration. However, Affliction now provides one more way for gamblers to lose their mortgage.

Round one of the Affliction vs. UFC clash is in the books. Affliction fared well going up against a less than stellar UFC Fight Night Card. But right now, it is not a question of which organization emerged victorious this past Saturday night. Now, it is a question of whether or not Affliction can keep up with the UFC?
Early indicators point toward the heavyweight division being the most dominant one in Affliction. While heavyweights are always a novel draw, the organization must fill out the other divisions to balance everything out.
That could be done and Affliction shouldn’t expect to build an equivalent to the UFC overnight. It takes time and like every organization that progresses, it must experience some growing pains. However, it seems to be a good start for Affliction. Other organizations have popped up, but none have ever really been able to give the UFC a run for its money.
Affliction has proven it is capable of inflicting some pain on its competition. Bloodyelbow.com offers another take on the matter.

Earlier this week, UFC President made some scathing remarks regarding Affliction’s latest attempt to join the growing contingent of mma organizations. Prior to that, White banned UFC fighters from wearing any Affliction attire whatsoever. And now, Affliction President Tom Atencio claims he wants to work in conjunction with the UFC.
Atencio recently told TAGG Radio that he could see Affliction and UFC putting together some sort of unified title event. However, he also didn’t hesitate to state that White is obviously threatened by Affliction.
So where does Atencio really stand on this matter? Is he offering White and olive branch in an attempt to have the two organizations work together or is it just nothing more than idle chatter?
Whatever the case, it could lead to an interesting future in the sport of mixed martial arts. In addition to watching fights inside the cage, fans could be treated to a war of organizations as well. Mmajunkie.com has more on Atencio’s latest comments.

One of the most feared and successful heavyweights of the last decade has only known defeat once in his professional career. Fedor Emelianenko currently owns a 27-1 professional record with his only loss coming way back in the year 2000. On July 19th, he’ll try to extend his 24 fight win streak as he squares off against former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia.
Fedor will immediately give up an eight inch height advantage when steps into the cage as part of the main of event of Affliction’s debut card. Sylvia is also no pushover by any stretch of the imagination. Sylvia will take a 24-4 record into the fight and while that record is quite impressive, it still seems as though Sylvia has something to prove.
Sylvia dropped two of his last three fights although those defeats were at the hands of some top notch opponents in Randy Couture and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira. In order to get back on top, Sylvia will have to top the best heavyweight in the sport. 411mania.com goes into greater detail about the possibility of a Fedor loss.

The next six months should be a busy time for heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko. In addition to fighting Tim Sylvia this July 19th as part of Affliction’s debut event, Fedor has also agreed to two more bouts in 2008.
The next fight is likely to be featured in Affliction’s follow-up event that will be done in conjunction with M-1 Global. The last of the three fights figures to be another M-1 Global event that will take place on New Year’s Eve in Japan.
Fedor’s opponent for that end of the year bash will probably be the winner of “Fighting Fedor”, a reality shows featuring 16 contestants who will all be competing for the chance to face Fedor. Considering Fedor’s lack of activity over the past seven months, the coming months will be a busy time for one of the most feared heavyweights in the world.
