The clothing company that is now putting on MMA events has added another fighter to their arsenal, at least for a little while. Edwin “Babyface” Dewees has reportedly signed a multi-fight deal with Afflicition according to mmajunkie.com. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but it is a safe bet that Dewees will show his babyface at Affliction’s follow-up event following its July 19th debut.
Dewees is scheduled to take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (13-3) at Affliction: Banned which will air on pay-per-view in a little more than a week. Dewees is no stranger to the cage as he brings in a professional record of 35-12 with two of those fights coming in the UFC. However, Dewees wound up on the losing end of each UFC bout and was also part of the cast on The Ultimate Fighter 4.
The Babyface scored a victory in his last fight with a first round submission over little known Richard Blake this past April. But that win came after four consecutive losses. Dewees’ signing doesn’t exactly provide Affliction with one of the more dominant fighters in the world of mixed martial arts. Nevertheless, the organization is preparing for the future.

Although he has never fought in the UFC, Mike Whitehead has accumulated an impressive professional record of 21-5. Whitehead has also been part of other opening events for various organizations. And on July 19th, Whitehead will add one more organization to that list when he takes on Renato “Babalu” Sobra as part of Affliction’s first ever event.
Whitehead contends that Affliction is running a top notch organization. That will be put to the test when Affliction: Banned airs opposite UFC’s free July 19th event featuring a clash between Anderson Silva and James Irvin. NBC Sports caught up with Whitehead as he gets ready for his upcoming contest with Sobra.

With Affliction’s July 19th pay-per-view event entitled ‘Banned’ inching ever so closer, the organization is trying to boost tickets sales by promoting its main event between heavyweights Fedor Emelianenko and Tim Sylvia. Fedor is giving away eight inches and 30 pounds to Sylvia. However, with a record of 27-1, Fedor is still considered the favorite.
Sylvia is no slouch, boasting a professional record of 24-4. Sylvia also has the distinction of being a former UFC heavyweight champion. At 6″8 260 pounds, there isn’t a heavyweight who can take Sylvia lightly. Nevertheless, Fedor is one of the most feared heavyweights in the world of mixed martial arts with his only loss coming because of a stoppage due to a cut.
In an attempt to draw more spectators both ringside and nationwide via pay-per-view, Affliction is trying to sell the fight as a clash of the Super Powers. The Russia vs. America feud has resurfaced during the promotion while the gargantuan size of each fighter also plays into the super power marketing mix. The promotional strategies are likely to increase over the next few weeks if Affliction has hopes of competing with the live UFC event that will take place on the same night.
In a further attempt to generate interest, Fox Sports Net will televise a free one hour special at 8pm EST leading up to the pay-per-view event that will begin at 9pm EST. Affliction has also booked Megadeth to perform live at the event which will take place in Anaheim, California.
