EliteXC Unfinished Business Predictions

July 26th, 2008

The countdown continues to EliteXC’s Unfinished Business and it s now time to pick some winners. Here’s a look at how tonight’s bouts will turn out according to mmacrunch.com. But remember, it isn’t an exact science.

Robbie Lawler vs. Scott Smith
Lawler has the conditioning to outlast Smith and that is exactly what will happen. The two will be on the see-saw for the first two rounds, but Lawler will wear Smith down and score a TKO in the fourth round.

Jake Shields vs. Nick Thompson
Thompson’s run comes to an end at the hands of Shields. Shields is just a superior fighter and won’t take long to win the welterweight title. This one ends before the first round is over. Whether it is by knockout or submission is just a mere technicality.

Nick Diaz vs. Thomas Denny
Diaz picks it up here and disposes of Denny in the first round. Denny doesn’t have the skills to last with Diaz even if Diaz comes out as lethargically as he did in his last couple of fights. Diaz finishes Denny with a KO less than four minutes into the fight.

Shayna Baszler vs. Christiane Cyborg
This could turn out to be one of the most exciting fights of the night. Cyborg is coming off a very long lay-off and might feel the effects. This is a toss-up, but given Baszler’s more recent success, we’ll say Baszler wins by submission in round two.

Antonio Silva vs. Justin Eilers
It’s a good thing EliteXC didn’t schedule this one for the main fight card. In the wake of last week’s heavyweight bouts, a Silva mauling of Eilers really wouldn’t compare. Silva wins by TKO two minutes into the first round.

Wilson Reis vs. Brian Caraway
Both fighters will try to win this one via submission. While Caraway is good, Reis is better. Caraway will present some problems, but Reis will still submit him late in the second round.

Rafael Feijao Cavalcante vs. Travis Galbraith
If you have the urge to bet on any fight tonight, this may be the perfect one. Feijao will win this one, it is just a matter of when. We’ll go ahead and put our money on a first round submission.
