A look at the UFC 86 payouts
So you want to be an MMA fighter? The payday may look good, however the dues paid long before the fight ever takes place may be substantially higher. Here’s a look at each fighter’s payout from UFC 86 and a few quick thoughts on the warriors’ wages.
Forrest Griffin: $310,000 ($100,000 + $150,000 win bonus + $60,000 Fight of the Night bonus)
For providing one of the best fights of the year, we say kudos to Griffin for his sizable payout
Quinton Jackson: $285,000 ($225,000 + $60,000 Fight of the Night bonus)
Jackson fought like a champ and was paid accordingly
Gabriel Gonzaga: $100,000
50 grand a minute isn’t bad for a kamura and a submission even if it was on Justin McCully
Melvin Guillard: $80,000 ($20,000 + $60,000 Knockout of the Night bonus)
60K for a knockout is a heck of a bonus, just don’t spend it all on dope Melvin
Cole Miller: $80,000 ($20,000 + $60,000 Submission of the Night bonus)
A tactical victory was never so valuable
Josh Koscheck: $70,000
Probably wondering how in the world Miller and Guillard made took home more dough
Joe Stevenson: $60,000
May have a legitimate gripe about being underpaid
Tyson Griffin: $40,000
How in the world could the man he beat make the same amount of money?
Marcus Aurelio: $40,000
Despite the loss, he’ll have plenty of cash to purchase Gladiator DVD’s and shout out “Maximus”
Patrick Cote: $32,000
With a title shot awaiting in the future, how is he at the bottom of the pay scale?
Ricardo Almeida: $23,000
This split decision loss could be the most cash he earns in a while
Chris Lytle: $14,000
Disappointing night in the octagon and at the pay window
Gleison Tibau: $11,000
Take the 11k and run, after all did he really think he had a chance against Joe Daddy?
Jorge Gurgel: $10,000
Let out a gurgle of his own when he received his check
Justin Buchholz: $8,000
Not a stellar pay day, but his first UFC win could lead to more cash in the future
Corey Hill: $8,000
Could be worse, he could be Dennis Siver
Dennis Siver: $7,000
Not to shabby for doing a “Glass Joe” impersonation
Justin McCully: $5,000
Would be considered a big pay day in the next league he’ll be fighting in
