He is only thirty-three years old, however Tito Ortiz seems like he has been in the fight game forever. Ortiz was one of the pioneers who helped bring mixed martial arts to the mainstream. And now that the sport is starting to really explode, Ortiz wants back in.

And why shouldn’t he? Ortiz is hardly past his prime at such a young age. Randy Couture didn’t really start to begin his rise until his early to mid-thirties. So why can’t Tito come back and be a dominant force wherever he winds up fighting?

For whatever reason Ortiz wants to give, he came up short in his last three fights. He dropped one bout to Chuck Liddell and another to Lyoto Machida while fighting to a draw with Rashad Evans. Fabricio Werdum leaked some details about his next bout. In an interview that needed to be translated in his native Portuguese, he claimed that he will fight Juniors De Santos at UFC 90. Werdum also went on to state that if he emerges victorious, he will then be the next challenger for the heavyweight title.

Meanwhile, Tito Ortiz is reportedly very close to signing a deal with Affliction that will have him face Renato “Babalu” Sobral at its next event on October 11th. A clause in Ortiz’s contract prohibits Affliction from speaking with him until August 4th. It is then that Affliction will likely seal the deal and usher in Ortiz vs. Sobral as its co-main event.

In other news, three U.S. Army fighters stationed at Ft. Bening, Georgia will participate in the AFL’s (American Fight League) September 26th event that will take place in Columbus, Georgia. The event has been billed “A salute to the troops.

Although UFC Undisputed will not be released until 2009, it is already winning awards. It was recently announced that the game had won IGN’s Overall Best of E3 2008 Awards. What’s that mean? It means it’s a pretty cool game. The game features amazing graphics and a realistic depiction of life inside the octagon.

Many similar fighting games of the past have been criticized for the stiff movement of its fighters. UFC Undisputed does not find itself plagued by such faults. The fighters’ movements are very fluid, quite emblematic of the actual stuff witnessed in real live broadcasts.

There has been a tremendous amount of hype surrounding this game and will surely follow it up to its release date in 2009. The exact date of the release has yet to be announced, however gamers are likely to wait in line for hours to be the first to get their hands on UFC Undisputed.

The latest IFL defectee to find some work has been L.C. Davis. The featherweight will compete this Sunday night at WEC 35 as he takes on Hiroyuki Takaya. Takaya was originally set to face Cub Swanson, although Swanson was forced to bow out after sustaining a broken hand while training. Now, Davis has stepped in and accepted the challenge on very short notice.

Davis is no pushover to say the least. He has accumulated a very impressive 10-1 record and boasted a 3-1 mark in the IFL with his only loss coming to the latest IFL featherweight champion Wagnney Fabiano. Davis is currently training under th tutelage of the well-known Pat Miletich who is based out of Davenport, Iowa.

Takaya holds a record of 9-5-1 with a loss in his only WEC appearance this past February. Takaya will have his hands full once again this Sunday night with another tough IFL veteran who has managed to find work now that his former employers went belly up.

A WEC veteran has managed to find a new home in the EliteXC. John “The Natural” Alessio has just signed a three fight deal with the organization. Alessio last fought on June 20th for Banner Promotions “Night of Combat”. Prior to that, he had six straight WEC fights with a UFC bout against Thiago Alves taking place right before those half-dozen fights.

Of course, Alessio was on the losing end of his fight with Alves, yet he still brings a lot of experience EliteXC. In fact, Alessio dropped all three of his fights that took place in the UFC. However, he did manage to piece together a 5-2 record in the very formidable WEC. The 29 year-old Alessio holds a current professional record of 23-11.

It has been rumored that Alessio may be starting to be groomed as a future challenger to current EliteXC welterweight champion Jake Shields. Fiveouncesofpain.com has more on this breaking story.

Tito Ortiz was on hand to check out the EliteXC action Saturday night and was also a sponsor of Scott Smith. He went on to state he has no desire to head back to the UFC and even called Dana White a “dirtbag”. Ortiz also admitted that he is willing to compete again but this point, it looks like Affliction or the EliteXC could be the next home for Ortiz to fight. October 4th is the next time EliteXC will put on another national television event. That means it will have plenty of time to figure out how to improve on the deplorable ratings it received this past Saturday night. The Kimbo Slice factor will help boost the ratings as people are still curious. However, the EliteXC may be better off finding a quality opponent this time around.

Some one with name recognition and credibility will either put Kimbo down once and for all or legitimize his claim in the mma world. Either way, viewers will tune in to watch Slice’s rise or subsequent fall.

EliteXC should also do everything in its power to promote a Gina Carano vs. Chrstianne Cyborg bout. The two women are at the top of the women’s circuit in EliteXC and figure to put on another riveting perfromance. The EliteXC would be wise to invest some time in marketing that fight.

Lastly, the Nick Diaz vs. KJ Noons feud needs to be settled. They are two of the top fighters in the organization and each have a general dislike of one another. The bad blood should enhance some of the allure surrounding that fight as well.

Those three possibilities should be seriously considered if the EliteXC has any hopes of maintaining a network television spot. It’s time to pull out all the stops because a repeat of Saturday night’s ratings just won’t do. And with all the other mma organizations gaining steam, it’s time for the EliteXC to use every bit of power it has.

Although Tito Ortiz won’t be fighting anytime soon, he is still managing to make headlines. And no, it has nothing to do with the fact that he is still dating a woman who once passed for Jenna Jameson. Ortiz’s latest foray into the headlines centers around his book, “This is gonna Hurt”.

The Sun newspaper does a spread on Ortiz and takes excerpts from his book in which Ortiz talks about his past run ins with Forrest Griffin and Ken Shamrock. The Sun also goes on to report that Ortiz is close friends with Donald Trump, which could lead to a future bout in an upcoming Affliction card. As of now, that is merely speculation.

Ortiz will probably ride the laurels of his new book for a while and when people stop turning the pages, he will likely step back into cage for one more pay day. A return to the cage would bring in viewers regardless of how much past his prime Ortiz may be. So don’t be surprised to see Ortiz pop back into the cage once his books accumulate a significant amount of dust while sitting on the shelves in stores around the world.
